Fuel and time calculator

Estimate flight time and fuel required.

Enter your own distance, ground speed and fuel burn. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

14 CFR 91.151(a) requires VFR airplane flights to carry fuel to the first point of intended landing plus 30 minutes by day or 45 minutes at night at normal cruising speed.

How the estimate is worked out

Distance divided by ground speed gives flight time. The calculator rounds time up to whole minutes, computes trip and reserve fuel from the entered hourly burn, then adds your taxi allowance. Fuel is rounded up to a tenth of the unit you choose.

Verify the inputs and result against your POH and current weather before planning a flight.

Questions

Does this choose my reserve for me?
No. Enter the reserve minutes for your flight. The reference beside the field states the VFR airplane minimum in 14 CFR 91.151(a).
Can I use pounds instead of gallons?
Yes. Select pounds and enter both fuel burn and taxi allowance in pounds. The calculator does no unit conversion.
