How the wind triangle works
The crosswind component sets the correction angle you steer into the wind. The along-track airspeed, adjusted for headwind or tailwind, gives estimated ground speed. Positive correction and crosswind mean wind from the right; negative means wind from the left.
Use current weather and your aircraft's own performance information before planning a flight.
Questions
- Are course, heading and wind direction true or magnetic?
- This calculator uses true degrees for both the course and wind-from direction, and returns a true heading.
- What if the wind exceeds the true airspeed?
- The calculator reports no solution instead of returning a heading or ground speed.
